Just a short public thanks to Clive to helping me sort out yet again another technical problem on Iberianature.

If you're looking with whom to host, don't bother looking any further

A friend of mine, Anna Gallés, is helping out with the Spanish version of iberianature - naturaiberica. At the moment she’s compiling this very useful directory of opportunities for environmental volunteer work in Spain.  A wide range of activities is available from working black vultures in the Balearics to helping amphibians in Catalonia. I won’t translate these activities into English as some limited knowledge of Spanish is always going to be necessary to join up to these programmes, but if anyone has any specific questions, please don’t hesitate to email me.

I am trying to think of a volunteer position that involves "Working black vultures" Smiley

Iberianature with the naturaiberica is just getting better...... Well done!

Next term I'm going to be doing a couple of interesting courses for Spanish people on "English and nature" (see link) and I'm having to prepare quite a lot new material for them.

As a result I've started a new section on iberianature called "learning English through nature" where I'm going to post up most of the material. It occurs to me that we might be able to attract more Spanish people to the forum as this section could act as a natural bridge This is one of Clive's and my original goals for iberianature: to make the forum a meeting point for Spanish and foreign naturalists through English as an international language.

http://www.iberianature.com/learning-english-through-nature/wild-animals-quiz/

If I have time, I might also do it the other way and write material for people wanting to learn Spanish through nature. Some of the exercises would be quickly adaptable.

Great idea. And then, of course, there could be organised Iberianature field trips. With special rates for members. I know a nice place  santa_smiley
How about Iberianature wolf watching in English (first bit Teresa's idea, second mine) or the wild flower meadows of the Picos de Europa in English? I reckon we also have members with sufficient knowledge to do the invertebrate and reptilian life of the Spanish pseudosteppes.............the list is endless. Iberianature Holidays  santa_cheesy

From the blog;

The Basque Iberian wolf group, Grupo Lobo de Euskadi, is organising a couple of days of talks on the 19th and 20th of December, 2008 in Vitoria. This will be the fourth of these meetings, reuniting wolf experts in Spain, and will be attended by naturalists, biologists, ecologists and farmers as well as being open to members of the public. One of the country’s foremost wolf experts, Carlos Sanz, will be among the contributors and the main focus of this year’s meeting will be given over to the national wolf conservation movements and their opinions on the various wolf management strategies of Spain’s autonomous communties. Previous meetings have included themes such as the biology of the Iberian wolf and problems relating to wolves and livestock. Contact details for applying to attend are included on the link below. It promises to be interesting!

The programme can be downloaded here on pdf.

Splendid initiative.
No idea if you might find any inspiration on this site, run by a mate of mine and his wife.

Sure they would be happy to explain the technology involved if you were interested. Obviously it could be used for texts in English with the Spanish translations appearing.  Smiley

I feel terrible for bumping down that brilliant lynx cub photo but thought these were interesting figures on poisoned Spanish wildlife.

Finally managed to fix the drop-down menu of the blog which for some reason beyond me hasn't been working for more than a year. Wil get round to modifying the colour soonish.

http://www.iberianature.com/spainblog/

If you run a wordpress blog you may be interested that the dropdown menu on the rest of the site is:

And the new blog menu uses:
