Found on a wet meadow, Sierra Nevada, N. side, ca 2000m.

Looks a bit like Dactylorhiza elata.  However, not significantly "dotted".

Unfortunately, the photos gets a bit blurred if magnified.  Cry

Yes, it looks like Dactylorhiza elata.

So you don't think the lack of clear dots is important?

It was quite a tall orchid, the biggest about knee high. That could rule out some of the possibilities.

Dactylorhiza elata is extremely variable. I have seen them with and without dots, patterns of all kinds, size from 10 cm to over 1.50m...
