Last night at 23:15 we witnessed the most spectacular electrical storm I have ever seen, including those I've experienced in the tropics. We live in the Orba valley in the north of the Costa Blanca and this storm seemed to be out at sea; the thunder was very distant. The lightning was continuous and multiple, striking out in all directions - in fact I never saw any of the bolts go to earth. This fantastic light display continued for almost 15 minutes until the huge thunderhead cloud started to break up. You can view a short video clip of the storm at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJCfdeKnyek

Great stuff, fab photos and video.

I think im right in beliving we do not see the lightening until it has struck ground and is heading back up???!!! We never see it on its way down?

I was in Trevelez today and whilst there we had a hail storm, it only lasted about 5 mins but in Lanjaron there was nothing!

.....and remember the video is not speeded-up! That was the continuous rate at which the lightning was flashing and it continued for almost 15 minutes. I have never seen an electrical storm so violent.
