I'm sorry to say this, but this subject is beginning to upset me1 I feel, like sex, politics and religion, that this subject should be confined to the campfire, where proper facial/speech tone and body movement expressions come into the equation. Unless you are a genius (like Simon and Lucy) with the written word, your views/intentions are open to mis-interpretation. To try to clarify my opinions, I am ignorant, but anti!

As the Comunidades start lining up behind Esperanza Aguirre, things are set to get ugly.

Don't kid yourselves that this has much to do with people feeling sorry for bulls or being enamoured of 'la fiesta nacional'. The issues will soon be forgotten as Catalans and Castillans do their best to shit on each other in any way they can and the masks come off to reveal the deep mutual dislike and mistrust, fuelled by the bigots on both sides.

And it certainly ain't going to be a case of civilised Cataluña showing the way and winning converts. There is a lot of anger and rage out there given the state of this nation, where, battered daily by stories of how the corrupt elite continues to  do very nicely, millions are paying for a crisis they did not cause. Any focus for that anger will be welcome and if the 'pampered and endlessly courted' Catalans force through a change, it will produce a furious backlash that will put the anti-bullfighting cause back decades in the rest of Spain, where a slow and patient chipping away of received ideas is the only way forward.

You read it here first.

Greetings All,
Well put, folks.

2 articles from El País:

"Toros en Cataluña: segundo aviso"

"Madrid protegerá las corridas de toros, que Cataluña debate prohibir"

As predicted by Glennie, the storm has broken.  Bull rings all round Spain can expect a full house, with the Socialists pushing each other out of the way to get front row seats.
