An article in EL Pais talks about this winter having been the most extreme and abnormal since 1900, the usual 40% of high pressure days reduced to 25%, with continuous borrascas (English anyone?) being generated in the Atlantic, sending over cloud and rain, particularly to Andalucia, as various people can testify!

Expert prediction for the spring:

Greetings All,
As of even date, huge drop in temps., ie chilly and windy, since the weekend. Large black clouds looming (Sp. anyone?) and distinct smell of rain in the air.

Lucy: re. yer borrascas, how 'bout "areas of low pressure"? Which I suppose means thunderstoms, etc. Nick?

Of course, the adjective, borrascosas, would be "wuthering" dancing

There isn't really a good single word for borrasca.  There's one passing right now.

looming could be amenazando

Well, weatheronline told me that there was not going to be any rain in this area for over a week.  So yesterday I finally uncovered the pool and started to repaint for the season.  What happened over night - rain !!  Just hope that my work has not been too damaged when I go out to look.

Piddling down with rain yet again, and more forecast for the week.
Hope that things improve for those of you attending the summit.  Unfortunately I will not be with you as we have visitors over that particular weekend.

Greetings All,
Aviso para navegantes (En. anyone?): I know I have had occasion before to remind the good folk here at iberianatureforum who happen to live here in sunny Spain that "When in Spain,..." ie http://www.aemet.es/es/eltiempo/prediccion/espana is where it's at. weatheronline indeed!

At least all this water will be good for the crops (?) and for those of us having to stick tent pegs into the ground at the up-and-coming Summit.

Drizzly regs. from Madrid,

Its cold and wet in Grazalema....... Everything is green and healthy, reservoirs are full to overflowing... Sunshine now please?

Seriously, what an incredible contrast to last year when the reservoirs were almost empty and the ground here was dust

Greetings All,
Windy and chilly - but sunny - in Madrid.

The drive back to Madrid from the Summit included a pretty hairy pass through Zaragoza, which apart from the miles of major roadworks along the ringroad and beyond, was the windiest this driver has ever experienced. Yours truly is still suffering from agujetas (En. anyone?) in the antebrazos (En. anyone?). The high winds have since hit Madrid and the sky is full of plastic bags and newspapers flying high above the buildings and sand from sundry building/road works flying into people’s eyes. Accompanying major drop in temps.

Hi All
Very windy in León, causing the partial collapse of one of my decorative arches (perhaps not a good idea 9 stories up), it is also quite cold, and the forecast is rain for the next week, That's it I´m going back to England, I warned the weather this would happen if it did not keep the sun shining on me every day, and rained only between midnight and 5:00am  Roll Eyes

Exactly the same here in the Els Ports, Southern Catalonia.  Not what I moved to Spain for.

A fresh metre of snow on Montseny!
After 48 hours of rain, when Wednesday morning dawned dry, the bird ringers at the Llobregat Delta were working flat out as the migrant bottleneck cleared - one ringer reported 100 birds just for Wednesday morning, when he normally does 25 in a day.

After a cold period of time we suddenly got 20 degr. early this morning, before sunrise! It is quite windy.

The forecasts predict 6-8 degr. morning temp., so I'm waiting for them to wake up to the realities!  santa_wink
