Now, today I surely got myself a surprise! Doing my weekly round in the Sierra Almijara, I came across a female cabra montés(a?). Unusually, she did not run away, just stared at me. And, then all of a sudden: she emitted a sharp but a but hoarse whistle!!  :o

I looked around to see if anyone else was around, but no. However, her kid emerged from the bushes, and after a brief encounter with mum, he jumped up the cliff on the other side of the road. Mummy whistled again, he came back and they both disappeared in funny, rabbit-like jumps!

I guess nobody is going to believe me, if you cannot provide me with a link to a sound recording of such an event!!!!!   :banghead:

Well I believe you because I hear them whistling quite often. It usually makes me jump though! Not the sort of noise one would associate with a goat!

What a relief, thank you, Andy!   :sign:

Yes, it was a rather sharp sound, but nicer than the domestic goat baaaa.......

You are talking of Ibex?
There's a video with a whistle here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J60ZjEtpy7M

Yes, Juan, that's it!  :clapping: So, now we've got proof!

It would be nice to have a sound track from Spanish Ibex (these obviously speak Mongoleese! ).

Now I wonder: do they all whistle, or is it the mothers call of the kids?

Dave, maybe you could get together with a pack and Gareth Malone and all might be taught to whistle "Colonel Bogey"  ;)
