Thought I'd let you know about two guides covering the Aragonese Pyrenees that I find really useful and informative and would recommend to anybody visiting the area.

First is 'Guia de flores del Pirineo' by M. Maza, F Cartagena and LM Navarro, published by Barrabes Editorial (ISBN 84-95744-59-7), 400 pages. It's a hardback and excellent for identification with excellent photography throughout (of both the flower and any other features that help identification). It has a really clear icons stating the size of the plant, the altitude it can be found at, months in flower and how common it is. It's in Spanish but written in fairly easy language telling you the habitat the plant can be found in and any associated interesting facts or myths associated. For me it's the photography that makes this such an excellent book.

The second book I've found really interesting is 'Parque Nacional de Ordesa & Monte Perdido - Atlas of the birds' by Kees Woutersen and Manolo Grasa (ISBN 84-607-5432-4), 200 pages. This is not a field guide but a comprehensive study of the birds found in and around the park during the summer of 1994 (I know a bit out of date). Written in both Spanish and English it covers the vegetation and habitats found within the park, recommended itineraries for birding and then a description of each species found - including the numbers seen, where they were seen, no. of breeding pairs, the birds behaviour in the park and if it's becoming more or less common. A lot of good information, nice photographs and a lovely hardback book about a spectacular area.

Couldn't find these on Amazon I'm afraid - if you'd like some info on where to get the books put a post on here and I'll find some details.

Hope you like them,

Just back from first trip to Pyrenees in Spring.  Was in Benasque and bumped into old Sr. Barrabes himself in his shop (same name).  Apart from selling all the summer and winter equipment there is a fantastic book and map section to rival any city book store.  You can download and order direct from them at http://www.barrabes.info

The Guia de flores del Pirineo is indeed a gem.
