Is anyone else addicted to this? Great excitement yesterday lunchtime when, briefly, all 4 birds were in the nest together - was beginning to think it was a single-parent family. After feeding one of the chicks proceeded to annoy/nibble the tail feathers of the remaining parent. I also like tuning in after dark to hear the night sounds. Sure I got distant midwife toads, no owls yet.
And I know I shouldn't do this but to carry on the DNA business found this on Wikipedia "Recent DNA research resulted in this species being moved to the genus Aquila from Hieraaetus."

Hola,

Just listened in for a while at 21.20 and it seems there is a thunder storm going on.

Heard what I think is a scops owl but also can here a kind of sonar noise. Is this a bat flying around within range of the microphone?

Hola,

Thanks for the tip SueMac.... Smiley

It looks like the female is feeding the male and the chick sitting quietly to the left. Or is there two chicks and one adult feeding? If there is why is one standing up being fed and the other just sitting there...

Clive

EDIT...That was amazing. I see now that the first chick is a lot bigger and very dominant. After feeding finished the other smaller chick who had been sitting quietly got kicked out of the best spot by the big one...

Hola, welcome back Nick...

That smaller chick is taking a beating from the bigger one...Is this normal in the nest?

The bigger one just ran over to the little one and kicked it hard....

I've seen the smaller chick being fed while the larger one (male?) waits patiently so am not too worried.
I suppose if there was going to be any real aggression/survival of the fittest, the little'un would have had it by now.

Thought they'd flown  :'( when I looked this morning, apparently empty nest, nice cuckoo and scops owl calling though. Then heard them and glimpsed one on the bottom right of screen. Preparing perhaps? Will try and keep an eye today.

Hola,

empty nest right now and I am so glad the youngest chick survived the bullying from the older sibling..

So where can we find out the stats?

Incubation length and gap between first and second hatchling? plus anything else like main food supply etc

Thanks

21:45 No-one home to roost, I think they must be in a nearby tree or another ledge? Heard their raucous calling twice this evening, then scops owl (again) and nightjar.

Just seen a severed rabbit's head (I think on the nest)

For those of you who are new to here, this link was a big favourite with us last year. It's a live webcam on a Bonelli's Eagle nest in El Garraf near Barcelona.

I just looked and saw a feeding session going on... Lovely to see

Problem is my internet connection is so slow it just breaks up... By the time I turned it back on again the adult was back on the chick.

We had a nice fly over today of a pair of Bonellis with the male displaying by holding his neck out and spreading his wings outwards and upwards... It is fascinating to watch...

I saw the chick an hour ago too. White, cute and fluffy and squeaking incessantly for food as it's mother tore a rabbit apart, and gently fed it.

Look forward to seeing your Bonellis, Clive
