Birds Photographed While-U-Wait (and Wait)

I'd like to show you a couple of photos of one bird taken over a period of 20 minutes last week on the Los Arenales-Santa Pola coast road. I'm so thrilled to have had this time in the company of this rather special little bird. The only regret I have is that I don't use a camcorder, I could have shot some amazing footage as he let me get so very close...

I've been to this location before, Malcolm Palmer the Costa Blanca Bird Guide author told me about the place and that RBRs bred there, and I have had glimpses of them on a regular basis. Last week I went there in the morning, saw a couple of them flitting about in the trees but no chance of a shot. I was about to leave the area when I heard a strange insistent buzzing noise which I decided to investigate.  This is what I discovered, I got to within 15 feet of the action and just kept snapping away....

He was displaying at a female sitting in a nearby shrub, I hadn't heard this call before although I have often heard the song, which as Malcolm told me is a bit like a Robin with a sore throat - no wonder it's sore if you buzz away like this all day... Lips Sealed

I'll be putting these and a lot more on my Photopic site later this week when I'm offshore, I must have taken over 100 shots during the 20 minutes and he was still at it when I went away, so I hope he eventually got his reward  biggrin
