Cat got there first

Can anyone help with this I/d please? Is it a Horseshoe Whipsnake? Unfortunately the cat had already killed it before I got there (much to wife's relief if not mine). Snake was approx. 40cm, 1cm wide at widest, lozenge shaped head (I think - it took the brunt of the kill). Mushroom coloured round markings all along beige upper side and with silver below. We live at 425m and 8km inland from the Med, with an olive grove alongside and pine-clad mountain above.

Bloody cats! Yes it was a horseshoe whip snake. Do you ever see any live ones?
