I know it is a bit 'Canarian' rather than 'Iberian' but there is a fascinating geological event going on in the Canaries. There is a submarine eruption on the southern ridge of El Hierro. It has been going on since July - the precursors were instrumentally felt earthquakes but then the seismic events began to be felt. Villages were evacuates and roads closed because of fear of air quality and of landslides - and it is now at the stage where there are video webcams trained on it.
As far as the poblacion is concerned this has been difficult: several evacuations, and a ban on fishing has made live extremely difficult for them.
