Unfortunately I had a Montpellier (Malpolon monspessalanus) snake killed today on the road outside our house . It is perhaps worth demonstrating some of the main features used to ID this species.

1)  very narrow frontal scale
2)  pronounced "eyebrows"
3)  19 scales at mid body level
4 )  rear fanged. (showing how difficult it would be for this snake  to use its venom on a human being.
In any event a mild venom, slightly more potent than wasp or hornet venom. not dangerous to a normal healthy human.)
5) Upper jaw protruding well beyond lower jaw

Hope this is helpful and you enjoy the pics.
