Looks like the reintroduction programme in the Picos has been held back another year.

"La introducción artificial de los primeros ejemplares de quebrantahuesos en los Picos de Europa coincidirá con la inauguración del centro de interpretación sobre esta ave en el concejo de Onís, prevista para 'el primer trimestre de 2009."

Acebeas, one of the four young birds released in May in Cazorla has been found dead. We'll wait for the autopsy report.

From El Mundo, environmental officers from Granada are continuing investigations into the killing of Segura. There's a possible penalty of between 2-4 years in prison and a fine of between 60,000 - 300,500 euros (too many "0"s on that last figure for me).
On the same page it says that the Environment department of the Junta de Andalucia is in charge of the radio tracking of the birds.
Seprona are currently prosecuting a farmer for using poison in the same area that Segura was found in, Castríl, Granada.
(The FCQ website encourages the public to report sightings of Lammergeier to add to their database.)
Here's a photo of Segura from Gypaetus.org.

The farmer has been sentenced to 18 months in prison. http://www.gypaetus.org/_detalle_noticias.php?id=107

What a beautiful bird. Great news the farmer has been prosecuted, lets hope people start to learn.
