I just thought I'd mention that yesterday (1st March) I saw my first Short-toed eagle for the year. It was near Lanjaron in the Alpujarras, Andalucia. Although this is not my earliest record it is remarkable because it is so soon after the cold and sleety conditions we have had recently. Hopefully the snakes will be responding to the warmth so the eagles can find something to eat! I also saw a swallow on the 29th February. Although "one Short-toed eagle does not a summer make" at least it is a definite sign that Spring is on the way.
