Greetings All,
Update on spanishfreelander Dave's Dilemma:
Just popped over to Google's Translator for getting the gist of a German-language text and remembered this great thread - and couldn't resist having another bash at it.
Almost a year ago, Clive's babelfish and León Dave's http://translation2.paralink.com/ came up with pretty lousy translations for the following original text:
Los lobos matan 40 ovejas en una nave situada dentro de San Adrián del Valle
El propietario cifra en 12.000 euros las pérdidas causadas por la visita de los cánidos
El ataque merma el 10% del censo de una explotación de raza assaf, de gran valor genético

Just put same text through Google and it came up with the following:
The wolves killed 40 sheep in a building located in San Adrian Valley
The owner estimated at 12,000 euros losses caused by the visit of cánidos
The attack decline 10% census exploitation of race Assaf, valuable genetic
which is a marked improvement as it no longer claims that the massacre was carried out on a ship  :dancing:

But to be fair and scientific about it, and giving 'em the benefit of the doubt that they've been tweaking and fine-tuning things over at babelfish and the other site, I put the same text through the works again. Result?

Same lousy translation as before, with both sites insisting that nave was a ship and only a ship.

As of Sunday, 15th June 2008, and based on a comparative analysis of three online translators, the iberianatureforum's rovin', ramblin' and ravin' language correspondent is pleased to report that the Google Translator http://translate.google.com/translate_t?sl=es&tl=en?sl=es&tl=en would seem to be the best option.

Thanks as usual technopat.

As you probably know i loose many words and sentences in many topics. That means that i need my Webster's dictionary (english-english)  when i switch on my PC. It's a great sensation when i can see that the "spell check" only changes two or three words and many forumers help me to find an expression.
Sometimes I'm afraid that i can't explain properly some ideas (re. vultures and diclofenac) but I'm trying to do my best.

Anyway, i didn't joint the Iberianatureforum to improve my English, although I'm learning a lot. Thanks.
