flowers, shrubs and grasses etc / Who has eaten(?) my madonna lily seeds?

A little mystery: I was away for a few days last week, and when I came back, all the seed pods of my azucenas (Lilium candidum) had disappeared! And I´ve got a lot! The weather had been bad, so I thought: hailstorm, but then I should have found some pods on the ground. The plant is considered poisonous, but usually there is some sort of animal resistant to the poison, so do anyone know of an animal with a taste of lily seeds? It has never happened before in the 10 years, I´ve been here!

The seed pods were all broken off the stem right at the top. Perhaps somebody stole them, but I doubt that anyone would climb up our drive for that purpose

Dangers of Pine Processionary Caterpillars

When in Spain many people may wonder about scorpions, spiders and venomous snakes and will not be aware that they are much more likely to endanger themselves and their pets by getting too close to an innocent looking line of caterpillars that can be found crossing a pavement, road or footpath during the first months … Continue reading Dangers of Pine Processionary Caterpillars

Lots of them mating. They all look the same - as far as I could see! Didn´t look like ants to me, more beetlelike.

Male and female ants....... dispersing.... Many people think that they are all queens but 40 percent are males..... They mate and hopefully she will find a safe place to start a new colony... Fascinating stuff :)

Insects and creepy-crawlies / ID large flock of mating tiny beetles
« Last post by Petrea on November 22, 2017, 19:05 PM »
Two weeks ago I had a large flock (hundreds) of tiny winged insects sitting on the wall of our house. Not more that 2 mm wide, I think. If I got too close, they let themselves drop down some 10-15 cm, before getting airborne. Some of them were mating. Never seen anything like it. Wonder what they were - and why there (simply a dating show?).
