2. Lucy also has a lovely, new post which you may or may not have seen on the swifts of Collserola.

http://iberianature.com/lucyblog/2008/07/swifts-in-collserola/

The RSS feed for this blog is broken [I'm not sure where is should report stuff. PM to Nick or Clive?].

I am using:

  http://iberianature.com/lucyblog/feed/

I get an "error parsing feed" message in Liferea 1.4.16b [GNU/Linux]. On further investigation I get:

Code: [Select]
Could not detect the type of this feed! Please check if the source really points to a resource provided in one of the supported syndication formats!
XML Parser Output:
XML Parser: Could not parse document:

[There were more errors. Output was truncated!]

Erm... yes, I'm a geek.

Hi again Pault

Could it have been a temporary issue?

The new stuff on iberianature is a series of separate WP installations. I use rss to link between them. If you scroll down for instance on the front page (http://www.iberianature.com/) you should see Lucy's blog with her recent entries listed as an rss. Can you see them?

Thanks
Nick

Aye, until that particular node drops off the feed list.

Yes I can see them. This particular problem is pretty easy to fix I think, the clues are in the code I posted originally.

I looked at line 160 of the XML file as I suspected a rogue character had crept in somehow [probably a artifact from a bad paste from MS Wierd -- my humble apologies Lisa if you don't use Word]. The RSS parser in my feed reader barfed on that character and couldn't process the rest of the feed. Bingo, a rogue non-printing character had crept between ')' and '.'.

Wanna see for yourself? Try this link [it's an RSS feed validator]:

  http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http://iberianature.com/lucyblog/feed/

Easy solution: edit the character out, resave and the thing should work. The original message complained of not being able to finish a data section [it couldn't find the close tag]. It should be able to find it now and presto, the feed will be lovely again.

Hope this helps

Right, I've follwoed the link and I can it isn't working properly

so this must be a wordpress issue. The rss feeds are automatically added as widget. Haven't a clue about how to go about editing them manually. Any idea?

Thanks

I'm assuming the word 'confirm' is missing there  ::)

The RSS.XML files is automagically generated in Wordpress [WP] as you correctly said, so you don't have to edit it directly. It however generates from submitted content. So it's more than likely that the rogue character is in Lisa's original content [hence my hypothesis about a cut & paste from Word -- whose .doc file format is full of untold nastiness].

I can actually see the character when I view the article [Firefox 3.0.1, GNU/Linux]:

  http://iberianature.com/lucyblog/2008/06/citadel-of-herons/

After the big block of lovely photos, the end of the first sentence:

Quote
...putting on the show were Grey herons (Ardea cinerea)[!!].

I'm not familiar with the admin procedures in WP, but go into edit mode for the URI above, delete the character, save, peace on earth yada yada.

Well spotted Pault.....

Word always adds an N for NOT to the front of WYSIWYG editors.... :)

I must admit I use word for the spell checking and word count etc but then i generally paste to notepad and copy from that to an editor....

I've known about the spelling mistake in the header for more than a month. The guy who did it for me has been some very difficult personal circumstances and although I have asked him to change it for me, I don't like to insist. I'll have another insist though as it glares at me every morning.

Thnaks for that rss tip. There was funny box shape in the html code. It wouldn't let me delete it. Had to cut the paragraph in text pad and paste it back in from there.

Why is there the letter "S" under Lucy's blog area?

Are you in the know about some new fangled SEO keyword system?
