ID: Strange small red fungus

I found this funny thing in my garden, near an aloe. First, I thought that it was a badly developed specimen of Phallus impudicus. However, the colour was too nice!  :santa_wink: It is small, 2X1½ cm.

Hi Petrea, the central part of the fungus reminds me of a Latticed Stinkhorn - Clathrus ruber. There's a photo on the gallery: http://www.iberianatureforum.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=101

Maybe yours is a young one - see how it develops.
