Hi all,

I've started a new scetion on iberianature: britainnature.

http://iberianature.com/britainnature/

The idea is similar I suppose to iberianature: a knickknackery of wildlife, culture, history and geography and how they interplay between each other.

For the time being, it's on iberianature but there are plans afoot to move to its own domain.

Will have to change that banner though.

Hi Nick,

I've been browsing through The Natural History of Britain, and there's some interesting stuff in there already.  I like the piece on Martin Parr, and this quote from him:

Quote
We float through our cities and countryside with our eyes half closed. However if we go abroad, especially to countries which are very different to our own, our sensibilities are awakened; everything is fresh and exciting.

I thoroughly subscribe to his view, that we should go around our usual habitats looking at everything as if we were in a foreign land.

Thanks Lucy, I must say compiling the material is making me see Britain through fresh eyes again. I'm going in August to North West England, amd I'm greatly looking forward to do long walks, one along the Pennine Way, and the other along The Sefton Coastal Path...but I shouldn't ramble too much. This is the iberia - nature forum after all.

Very interesting reading Lucy.  Well done.
But I must ask - do you two have more hours in the day than I do.
I hardly ever seem to have the time to even drop into the :sign: Forum.

Thanks Clive, have you seen my first effort at a Google map? Some of the markers are at bit wonky but this has great potential I think:

Greetings Nick & Lucy,
Only just came across this amazing stuff! Excellent read - but I shall resist...

As Tony rightly points out, it's even difficult to find the time to pop in at the IBNforum - there are only 24hrs in a day in my neck of the woods & I have always considered myself an expert at making the most of 'em. The only explanation I can find is that time is relative and/or that in BCN there is some sort of time warp.

Unless Nick has set up a team of ghostwriters who beaver away day & night...

Superb stuff Nick and Lucy. Quality is soooo good. Don't know how you find the time.

There surely must be room for there for an occasional top-class Parthenopian dragonfly contribution.

(P.S. I noticed your article on the recovery of the Bittern. I saw two in five minutes at Minsmere this August.)

Thanks Glennie,

I've only ever seen one bittern. I was 12 years old and my mother said. Look, a bittern...

And thanks to TP too - though note:

A chunk of stuff was actually written while languishing in steamy August heat, when it was too hot to venture outside, and nice to imagine things like deer running about in misty Scottish Highlands.
