    • Accommodation and Activities in the Picos de Europa
« on: November 13, 2009, 08:13 AM »
Well it's taken me a little while  >:D and I had been waiting for the company to be registered in Spain (ongoing process) before officially announcing that The Picos de Europa is now online!

Now all I have to do is write and promote  :P

Apart from information on the flowers and wildlife around the Picos the new website also incorporates;

Picos Holiday Rentals.

A selection of holiday houses and apartments, not only in the Picos de Europa but also in the surrounding areas of Asturias, Cantabria and Castile-León including Redes Natural Park and the Picos de Europa Regional Park.

And....

Picos Rock & Snow, Guided walking, trekking, scrambling, snowshoeing and ski touring holidays in the unspoilt Picos de Europa mountains of Northern Spain, with the Picos experts!

If anyone fancies writing anything about the Picos we also have a trip reports section. Also a Picos images gallery with the idea of being able to register and upload your own photos. (Not sure if this is working properly yet!)

I'd welcome any comments, critical or otherwise  :)

And I nearly forgot, you can subscribe to our RSS news feeds. (News on bears and the San Glorio will still be posted here on the forum).

Hi Lisa,

They say "The slower the better" don't they! Seriously, a great site and I'm sure it will develop in no time thanks to the blog, galleries and trip reports (a feature that I haven't seen elsewhere, mind if I nick your idea?) - I'll have to whizz by that way next year and 'do my bit'!

Congratulations

Simon

Congratulation Lisa it's a credit to you.

Congratulations Lisa  :clapping: (and Clive!)

Your hard work has paid off.  There's an amazing array of tempting things to click on.  Incredible how so much information is displayed in a very accessible way.

Thanks everyone  8)
The content to be added is a bit daunting now. Still, poco a poco. I'd be interested to hear of your browser experiences, particularly IE 8, Chrome and Safari. E.g. I discovered this a.m. that although all looked fine in IE 7, in Firefox it was a different story  ::) So I've changed the snowshoeing page to include a slideshow and got rid of the various snowshoe close-ups, but it loads a little hicuppy in Firefox. Something else to work on......
The Picos Blog author has been away under the guise of "Picos Picasso" painting the Alps (not red as far as I know  :o ) but will be back soon and under the pain of death a certain amount of gentle coercion to write regularly on mountain stuff.

P.S. 88 online is the record so far  :o

Well done Lisa, You have worked hard to get the content up and it all looks pretty good now... Can only get better as you add more to the blogs and other sections....

Don't forget that the "online" number includes spiders and search bots as well as "real" people..... Now the site is live the search engines will be indexing it.... next step is a site map and Google analytics etc... :)

Well done Mike!... (Lisa)..........of course the good thing about a website created with a content management system is that it is easy to manage the content even after the content is published.... Things like spelling and layout can be checked and corrected very easily  :technodevil: ..... One very good clue here would be the lovely phrase that almost always works....... "I before E except after C" ... Maybe a line space to break up the paragraphs a bit as well? :)

Funny you should mention the i before c.... I was only trying to teach Olivia and Mike that one the other day. I resisted the urge to correct all ( :o) of the spelling because I think it adds to the content  >:D
