Today I came across these strange things in Sierra Tejeda, alt. ca 1000 m. They were all over the place in an extended area, even in the middel of the track! The size of a fist. Looks a bit like an old puff ball, with some dust inside. However, the remains were more tough, allmost wood-like.

There were a lot of Cistus plants in the area, so I came to think about Cytinus hypocistis: how do they look when old?  (Then we´re in the wrong section!  :o)

Can anyone throw some light on this?

Hi Petrea

Indeed they look as fungus, but I can´t talk about the species.

Sorry
