Can anyone help with this.  I photographed a trout on the Río Piloña in Asturias.  Doesn't look too healthy.

Cheers,

John

Hi John,

This is a fungal infection and was covered in La Neuva Espana a couple of months back, where the local fishing associations and naturalists were complaining about the spread of it this year. The fungus is Saprolegnia and will strike if the fish is in a weakened condition. In the case of recent reports in La Nueva Espana .... they're putting it down to the cold water temps ..... all that rain!

LNE report at ->http://www.lne.es/asturias/2012/05/25/salmones-tiritan-frio-sella/1247088.html

Although the report mentions Salmon it also affects other fish.

Regards,

Mike
