Can anyone help on an id of this bird please. A friend photographed it in Glen Sannox, Arran, Scotland. We think its a very wet juvenile Kestrel but some other people think it maybe a Merlin?

I will attach 3 photos.

Thanks
Maria

Looks like a bedraggled kestrel to me. Great photos.

Arran? You haven't run away from the heat of July have you?

Thanks for the info regarding the dog's home. So far we have had no luck and are getting more desperate!

Andy  slowly melting in the heat...

lol no Andy ive not gone anywhere cooler unfortunately (although I was in the Sierra Nevada yesterday 27C at 6am when I left Lanjaron, 15C at Hoya de la Mora with a 60k+ wind which made us have to wear duvet jackets and it rained on us, then came back to Lanjaron at 5pm to 40C!!!!) it was a friend who was there and asked me what the bird was, I thought Kestrel, then someone else thought it could be a Merlin. So now ive no idea and im confused as normal  :speechless:

Still trying to get the number of a rescue place, will keep you posted.

So you're still with us here. Not as hot today. Hot, but not so hot. I even swam in a swimming pool today. Luxury.

It's a kestrel.

Oh yes im still here  :)

Apparently a Levante came in over Gibraltar on Saturday eve, hence the lovely cool day yesterday and today high humidity 90% in Lanjaron  :speechless:

Thanks for the confirmation on Kestrel.

Dont know if you noticed but I got the phone number for the rescue place, put it on the other post, let me know how you get on.
