I have grown a tree from a seed given to me by a friend but do not know what it is called.  At present it is small but has borne its first flower.  My friend does not know what type of tree it is so would be happy if anyone could ID it for me from this photo of the flower.  Thanks

Researching further via Google I see that it is from Argentina originally and also called the Bird of Paradise Bush.

I've also heard of them called "paranoia" bushes. This is owing to their habit of noisily bursting their seed pods and scattering the seeds metres away from the plant. It sounds like someone is shooting with a rifle!

Qh, by the way: how long time did it take you to grow the tree (size?)?
