Hi all,

Not to be one for sitting idle I decided to create a new website www.caminodelrey.es about the famous Caminito del REy or "The kings path"

“El Caminito del Rey”, in English, “The King’s little pathway”) was initially built as an access route. It enabled workers at the hydroelectric power plants of El Chorro Gorge and Gaitanes Gorge with an easier way to transport materials, maintain and inspect the workings of the two power plants. Construction of the “walkway” began in 1901 and was finished in 1905 and in 1921 King Alfonso XIII visited and walked along the path for the inauguration of the Conde del Guadalhorce dam and since that time it became known as the “Kings path”

THE RESTORATION PROJECT....

The project to design a “complete, successful tourism product” is certainly in full flow now

Works to be carried out in three phases after the opening of the remodelled Camino del Rey will include better access, parking, rest areas, tourist information centers and viewpoints.

The president of the Malaga council, Elijah Bendodo recently presented the project of the “Caminito del Rey” which has been agreed by the town halls of Ardales, Alora, Abdalajis and Antequera. The projects total cost is worth a cool 11,586,040 euros.

The project will be carried out in three phases with the restoration of the camino being the first with a budget of 2.24 million euros that should be completed by spring 2015.

A total of 11 million euros will be invested in this project. It's pretty incredible really where all the cash comes from.

More teething problems for the Caminito del Rey reservation system

So the people in control of the Caminito del Rey have put the blame on computer hackers for a website error which resulted in too many people turning up to walk the Caminito del Rey on Wednesday 1st of April. I think it’s very easy to say this but as there is no proof it … Continue reading More teething problems for the Caminito del Rey reservation system

Walking the Caminito del Rey – Sat 11th April 2015

With the Caminito del Rey closed due to bad weather conditions just two days before the date I had my permit I wasn’t even sure if I would be able to walk the famous (infamous) and newly restored footpath through the Gaitanejo gorge. It was pouring with rain in Grazalema but I set off anyway … Continue reading Walking the Caminito del Rey – Sat 11th April 2015

Some thoughts about the Caminito del Rey

Ok, so 6 months have gone by and I have had the opportunity to visit and walk the renovated Caminito del Rey three times. Yes, it is still an amazing place to visit and explore but in the same sense it has lost a lot of it’s appeal for the adrenalin junkies, climbers (and even … Continue reading Some thoughts about the Caminito del Rey
