Hello everyone. I need some help identifying a large flock of birds I see circling over a "mountain", close to where I live, in-land Alicante. They're so high up that it's really difficult to see anything except a black silhouette, but they look like small birds of prey - common buzzards, or similar. I'd say there are at least a dozen, maybe 20.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm wondering if they could be ravens?

Yes, thanks Petra!  :clapping: I've had a quick look on Google and they look the same.

They look like ravens to me, especially the one in the middle of the top three. It's unusual to find so many together though. Maybe a mixed flock of ravens and chough?

This is what I found on Google, they look the same to my inexperienced eyes.

I'd post some more of my pictures but I have trouble getting them small enough to be accepted :/

Look like choughs to me but up your way they might be rooks..... Have they got red feet and red beaks?

Thank you, Clive; do you have dropbox? If so I will send you a link.

It's difficult to see any colour detail, they fly so high, they really are just silhouettes. Apparently, there are two types, one with red legs and beaks, the other with yellow ones. All I can say is that they are quite big. I have seen ravens here but the one thing I have noticed is that they're noisy - the seem to call a lot when they fly over the house, and I've not seen flocks of them, only one or two, but this is obviously a nesting place high in the rocks and there are lots of them.

Hi stripeycat... I don't use dropbox :)

However...
Red beak red legs is red billed chough...
Red beak yellow legs is Alpine chough...

Except.. Baby red billed choughs have yellow legs as well :)

Hi again,

They are noisuý, you said, so maybe the sound will give them away. Listen to these:

Thank you, Petrea, I will listen to those recordings with interest. It's not the birds I want to identify that are noisy though - they're too high up to hear at all, circling their nesting site. It is the ravens that fly over the house that are the noisy ones and I know what they are because they're flying much lower and are more easy to I.D.  :D
