Merry X-mas everybody!

Today I found myself a X-mas present: the first orchids of the season! Of course: the always early Ophrys fusca, dark bee orchid. Seven of them in flower in Sierra Almijara, near Nerja, altitude between 400 and 500.

Great weather here these days!

Saludos

Thats really early for a bee orchid... In Grazalema we have a month or more yet before the first start showing........

Well, you are at a higher altitude! Also here around Cómpeta, which is a couple of hundred meters higher than those orchids, we have to wait for a while! Let´s see!

Apparently, I was too pessimistic: today I found a flowering O. fusca in my own neck of the wood, at an altitude of ca 840 m!   :dancing:

I think you´re right, it is early. The second time in 10 years that I spot them in Dec.

Now first butterfly orchid observed near Cómpeta 3 days ago, about a month later than last year. Some plants are early this year, others late!

And my geckos have started talking, so hey, where is everybody, things are going on in nature now?

It can´t be all horse riding!  ;)
