Can anyone help with the ID of this beetle please?
I think it is some kind of Oil Beetle.

Hi Maria.....
Yes it is an oil or blister beetle.... This one is not the red striped version but Berberomeloe insignis. You can tell from the no red stripes but red eyes I think...
All blister beetles contain a substance called cantharidin that causes irritation to skin and possibly blistering, hence the common name...

Clive, it's the length of the eyelashes!
Seriously, I'm sure the females are longer with much larger bodies for egg storage and depositing, whereas the males are more like an ordinary beetle, if there was such a thing.
