Striped "fly" for id

(1/2) > >>

JSW099:
Hi All,

Photographed this very smartly striped "fly" up in the Tejada´s, I thought it might be on of the horse flies(Clegs) due to its very large antenna, but eyes look too small. Have looked in my limited "insect books" but to no avail.

Obliged if you can help

Syd

Clive:
ufff thats a tough one syd..... I'd start off with one of the Simulium species....... Have a google and see if anything looks familiar....

JSW099:
Thanks Clive, will do !  Syd

JSW099:
clive, I had a few hours trawling through the Simulium sp. and couldn´t find anything that closely resembles my photo, but I have looked at Tabanidae sp. and found Chrysops relictus. What do you reckon??
Syd
