Two weeks ago I had a large flock (hundreds) of tiny winged insects sitting on the wall of our house. Not more that 2 mm wide, I think. If I got too close, they let themselves drop down some 10-15 cm, before getting airborne. Some of them were mating. Never seen anything like it. Wonder what they were - and why there (simply a dating show?).

Male and female ants....... dispersing.... Many people think that they are all queens but 40 percent are males..... They mate and hopefully she will find a safe place to start a new colony... Fascinating stuff :)

Lots of them mating. They all look the same - as far as I could see! Didn´t look like ants to me, more beetlelike.
